Item A Bibliography of Literary Theory, Criticism and Philology(University of Oxford, 2004-10) García Landa, José ÁngelA bibliography of literary theory, criticism, linguistics and other subjects related to the study of literatures and language, with a special focus on English-speaking authors and schools. It lists approximately 150,000 records, classified in several thousand subject listings on authors, periods, concepts, genres, etc.; these listings are grouped in approx. 4000 text files. Currently available online at: http://www.unizar.es/departamentos/filologia_inglesa/garciala/bibliography.htmlItem Avant-Garde/Neo-Avant-Garde Bibliographic Research Database(University of Oxford, 2006-03) Hemus, Ruth; Schaffner, Anna Katharina; Scheunemann, Dietrich; Otty, LisaThe objective of this database is to encourage, facilitate and stimulate research across the disciplines on avant-garde and neo-avant-garde art, literature, film, music, theory, architecture and performance. The database features a collection of more than 3000 bibliographic entries on secondary literature on avant-garde and neo-avant-garde related themes and topics. The entries are searchable via various different keyword functions including the categories ‘movement’ (i.e. “Dada”, “Surrealism”, “Situationist International” etc.), ‘main topic’ (“dadaist art”, “surrealist literature”, “photomontage” etc.) and ‘main author/artist discussed’. We want scholars to be able to search precisely for literature on very specific avant-garde related topics (such as less well-known movements or individuals, or particular avant-garde techniques, or literature on specific art forms within the various movements etc.), which are often not searchable in ordinary library catalogues. The information featured in each single entry includes: author/creator and contributors (in case of essay collections), time and place of publication, publisher, type of publication [i.e. monograph, essay collection, exhibition catalogue, catalogue raisonné, essay, review etc], language, and ISBN or ISSN numbers. We have attempted to cover relevant literature on major movements and individuals of the respective periods. Most works in the database are in English, though significant literature in other languages has also been included in some cases. The database mainly features secondary literature, i.e. literature about the avant-garde rather than by the avant-garde. However, exceptions have been made in those cases where the writers and painters of the avant-garde have written theoretical assessments, analytical pieces or declarations of intentions which are relevant for the understanding of the avant-garde’s endeavours. This is why certain manifestos, key essays, programmatic statements or reviews have been included. These are usually designated in the ‘type’ category as ‘programme/manifesto/statement’. A Historical Corpus of German Newspapers 1650-1800(University of Oxford, 2007-10-01) Durrell, Martin; Ensslin, Astrid; Bennett, PaulThe corpus consists of 45 text samples of some 200 words each from German newspapers of the early modern period 1650-1800. There are three texts each from five German regions - North Germany, West Germany, East Central Germany, South-West Germany (including Switzerland) and South-East Germany (including Austria) - for each fifty year sub-period. The corpus consists first of a set of unannoted text files contained in sets of folders for each region and period, and also of files with each individual text, and secondly of a set of xml files each of which contains one fully annotated text, organised into folders according to sub-period and region. In addition there is a documentation file which provides a full account of each stage of the corpus construction and annotation, together with any necessary modification of TEI standards. This file also contains a complete reference list of all the names of places, organisations and historical personages occuring in the corpus. Finally, a source file provides full bibiographic details of the original textsItem Gidian Archives(University of Oxford, 2006-06) Walker, David; Mercier, Pascal; Michallat, Wendy; Reisen, ThomasMode of access: Online. OTA website Gidian Archives is a database created from the press cuttings preserved by André Gide in his personal collection. The archive consists of articles published during his life on the author's work, his person and his influence on the society and culture of his age. It is well known that the 'key contemporary', as Gide was called, represents an essential reference point for several generations of intellectuals. Thus the articles in Gidian Archives provide crucial evidence on the history of thought across half a century. In addition to press cuttings tracing the critical reception of each of Gide's works, the archives contain polemical articles on his cultural interventions, on his political commitments and on matters of contemporary concern. Through what his professional readers say about Gide it is possible to follow the careers of other writers who declared and defined their own thought in dialogue with his. Similarly, the evolution of periodicals which published texts on Gide can be traced by means of this key research tool. The interest of the collection extends well beyond Gide studies. The archive is rich in information on numerous aspects of the history of literature, society, culture, politics, ideology, etc., in the first half of the twentieth century. The Search Engine makes it possible to find articles on a given theme ('mots clefs') or an individual ('noms propes'). One can track down all the articles by a particular writer ('auteur') or published in a specific review ('Titre de la revue'). Similarly, items can be selected by date. Texts are taken primarily from digital facsimile copies available on-line via the University of Würzburg’s web-based library interface, Digitale Volltexte zur Geschichte der deutschen Fach- und Wissenschaftssprachen (http://www.fachtexte.germanistik.uni-wuerzburg.de/), particularly from the subcategory of Gynäkologie ‘gynaecology’ (http://www.fachtexte.germanistik.uni-wuerzburg.de/suche.php?suche=sachbereich&formular=go&sachbereich=30). Where this is not the case (mainly in the texts by Rösslin and Rüff), a 1910 facsimile copy (ed. Gustav Klein) was used as the basis of transcription instead. Diplomatic transcription, double keying, and proofreading. The data represent partial copies of the works in question (sometimes the majority of text was keyed in, but there always some omissions in one form or another).
