Louis XVI's appointment of Conrad Alexander Gerard as Minister Plenipotentiary appears on p. [11]-12. A variant state (Evans 16147 copy at New York Public Library) has 34 p. only. The special title page to the treaty of alliance is absent, as is the appointment of Gerard on p. [3]-4. The special title page to the treaty of amity and commerce immediately follows the general title page.
