Primera, y segunda parte de la Araucana

This is a facsimile and transcription of Ercilla y Zúñiga, Alonso de, et al. Primera, y Segunda Parte De La Araucana. En Casa De Pedro Bellero, 1586. It is held by the Taylor Institution Library (shelf mark: 269.A.22 ). The transcription was encoded in TEI P5 XML by Marina Popea. This is a diplomatic transcription of the first Canto of La Araucana. The original spelling and presentation of the text have been respected, except in cases of evident typesetting mistakes as on pages 12 (“Eruzando”) or 17 (“rrabajo”), which have been indicated. This includes the original use of the long “s,” the interchanging of certain letters (“u,” “v” and “b" among many others), double consonants, and the omission of the initial “h” in some words, as well as the original capitalisation and lack of accentuation. Abbreviations too have been replicated. The only exception to this are the ligatures, which have not been maintained in the transcription. The original punctuation has been followed, including a few cases in which spacing differs from modern usage. All other visual features such as line breaks, running headers, page numbers, quire marks and catchwords have also been reproduced. No marginalia were found in this copy of La Araucana.
