dc.description.abstractBy John Jonston. Imprint from colophon. A later state of the edition with undated colophon "at least the texts under James VI and Anne of Denmark have been revised"--STC. These two states have prose captions in Scots prose. The plates were originally used in Johnston's "Inscriptiones historicæ regum Scotorum", which had Latin verse below the portraits. Identified as STC 12886 on UMI microfilm. Reproduction of the original in the British Library.
